Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
”, but what do we understand from this? Nowadays, animal abuse is common across all the boundaries of the nation. Cruelty to animals, also called animal abuse, animal neglect or animal cruelty, is the infliction by omission (animal neglect) or by commission by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human. The worst thing is when people abuse animals knowingly just to satisfy their inner demons or to have fun. There are various excruciating cases which show the atrocity of man and how he abuses animals at an extreme level. Case 1. Three months pregnant cow was raped in Andhra Pradesh was found tied to a tree with bleeding genitals on December 2018.2. A dog named Mina was left without any medical attention when her paw was cut by her owner There are many more such agonizing cases which show animal brutality on an extreme level. This shows how a man who has progressed so much in recent times can be so cruel and backward. Humans brutally murder animals for the sake of meat, leather, fur etc. They are being slaughtered with intense pain that they couldn't bear and die helplessly. They are victims without a voice Neglect, hoarding, shooting, fighting, beating mutilation, throwing, stabbing, burning, vehicular are various common types of animal abuse. People who abuse animals are cowards, they take their issue out on the most defenceless victims available i.e these poor animals It is estimated that there are 900 to 2000 new cases every year of hoarding, with 250000 animals falling victims Over 115 million animals are killed in laboratory experiments worldwide for chemical, drug, food and cosmetic testing every year. Various painful electric shocks are also given, their calves are twisted to make them perform better in circus. To prevent such needless cruelty, certain laws have been designed. There are various organizations which are tirelessly working for these victims. There are certain acts and welfare societies for the same, to prevent animal abuse and make sure that such criminals are sent behind the bars and are strongly penalized Some of them are as follows: Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and the Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 make it illegal to maim or cause injury to any animal. It is also illegal for vehicles to purposefully injure dogs, cats and cows on the streets Abandoning any animal for any reason can land you in prison for up to three months. Section 11(1)(i) and Section 11(1)(j), PCA Act, 1960 Stray dogs are protected under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and rules enacted under Section 38 of the act, particularly, the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001; Indian Penal Code, sections 428 & 429 and Article 51A (g) of the Constitution PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) is the largest animal rights organization in the world which works for animal rescue, legislation etc. and protest campaigns as well Despite animal cruelty being on its peak, it is our responsibility to report animal abuse whenever we
